From Gate Drop to Checkered Flag – Jesse James Battles Walterstone

Last weekend (August 9th & 10th) saw Cotswold Youth & AMX host a two day meeting at Walterstone. . Team rider Jesse James made the trip for the trophy day on Saturday and then Club Championship on the Sunday.

With Jesse currently sitting in 5th in the Club Championship for his first year on the Big Wheel 85cc bike, Jesse was looking to gain more valuable points as the Championship enters its closing rounds.

Hear from Jesse on how the weekend went below.

Saturday was a trophy round and I was looking forward to a good weekend racing.

Race 1 – This was the first race back on my practice bike. I was really looking forward to having it back and getting some bike time in. My start let me down so I made hard work for myself but I managed to bring back to 14th.

Race 2 – I rode the second race a lot better but because I’m not getting out of the gate fast enough. I’m having to work a lot harder and on a track like Walterstone you have to choose where to make passes because the track is quite narrow in places. Finished 13th.

Race 3 – Great Start. I was having a really good race then the front end washed out, I picked the bike up only to go down again. When the race was finished got the bike back to the van and realised I had a flat front tyre but still manage to stay in 14th.

Sunday Championship Points Round

Sunday was all to play for points win prizes as they say.

Race 1 – I think I was a bit keen on the start with revving the bike and flooded the carb so when the gate dropped we had the bike trying to choke down the start straight and then shot into life, undeterred I pushed on to 8th.

Race 2 – Had a good start and a really good race. I felt much better on the track and bike. It was hot and dusty but it really enjoyed it finishing 7th.

Race 3 – I had the pace in all the races and I think if I could have started better I could have finished slightly better and my riding was really good and I definitely had the speed, but I feel like I made it hard work for myself and finished 8th.

Finishing 8th overall moving to the next round I’m going to push to keep myself in the top 5 in the Championship to finish up a good first year on the Big Wheel 85cc.

Thank you to one and all who supports me week in week out.

WE ARE NORA CRS!
