Grit and Grind: Jesse Powers to 8th at Rushwick

Jesse returned to Rushwick this weekend for a double-header, determined to earn a trophy on Saturday and push for a breakthrough Championship performance on Sunday. Despite some nerves from a previous crash at the track, Jesse conquered both the course and his fears.

Here is how the weekend went for Jesse.

This weekend we headed to Rushwick for an open trophy meeting the day before the Championship round with Cotswold Youth & AMX Club. My goal for the Saturday was to get into the top 15 to qualify for a trophy because the last trophy meeting I missed out on.

I hadn’t ridden this track since I had my crash there last year so I was feeling a bit apprehensive to start. There was definitely nerves as I headed to the start line. I managed to have 3 decent races keeping my mistakes to a minimum conquering my fear. At the end of the day I achieved exactly what I set out to do and got myself a 14th overall and a trophy which was great and I was really pleased.

SUNDAY CHAMPIONSHIP DAY

I was really looking forward to Sunday, I knew I had plenty in the tank and I was raring to go.

Race 1 – 11th: Hit the gate for race one, my start was ok but track was very dry and rutty so I struggled to find my rhythm in the first 2 laps. Then common sense kicked in and I realised I had to calm down and find my flow and that’s what I did, I started carving my way through the field picking riders off one by one bringing home an 11th in my first race 8th Cotswold rider home.

Race 2 – 9th: My second race was amazing I got out of the gate cleanly headed out the front with the seasoned Big Wheel riders. I managed to hold them off for a lap but they a just that bit stronger than me at moment. I went on to finish ahead of some I have never beaten before so I was very pleased with my 9th. 6th Cotswold rider home.

Race 3 – 8th: It was the last race and it was absolutely boiling the sun was beating down on us on the start line. The gates dropped and my back wheel got caught in the starting line rut which unbalanced me. As I hit the first corner I was pretty much last so I knew I made a job for myself. I put my head down and went to work pushing my way back making insanely smart passes catching riders off guard and when they thought the were going to get back by me I was having none of it. My pace just got faster as the race went on and I bagged an 8th. 6th Cotswold rider home.

Happy with my results this weekend since going on to the Big Wheel I’ve tried so hard to break into the top 10 in Cotswold and now I’ve done it I’m heading for the top 5. I was a hot, so a hard weekend but thanks to Coach Robb’s invaluable advice and Nora CRS support I made it through with a beaming smile on my face ready to take on the world or maybe just the next round of the NORA92 British Cup and the Monster Masters.
